This program is designed to provide trainees with the knowledge, confidence, and skills required to become a Transit Operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From start to finish, the full training process &mdash; including license upgrade, Roam training, and mentorship (ride-alongs) &mdash; takes approximately six weeks to complete before you are cleared to operate independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>License Upgrade, if Needed (Class 2Q)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All successful candidates will be upgraded to a Class 2Q license, if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The license upgrade includes a written and road test, which may be completed in-house or through a partnering training school in Calgary, depending on staff availability, buses, and space. This upgrade must be completed before starting the Roam training program, which coincides with your official start date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The license upgrade typically requires approximately 15 hours of training, spread over four days, which may be non-consecutive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Air Brake Endorsement (Q)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The air brake endorsement (Q) is completed outside of Roam. It is a 12-hour course that must be completed before starting Roam training. Once completed, you will be required to write the air brake test at a registry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Roam Training Program<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you hold a Class 2 (or higher) license, you will begin the Roam training program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This portion of training runs for three consecutive weeks, five days per week. Upon successful completion, you will move on to the final phase of training: mentorship (ride-alongs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Training hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, for the three-week period. Some training days may start as early as 5:00 a.m. or finish as late as 10:00 p.m., depending on operational needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mentorship \/ Ride-Alongs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After successfully completing the Roam training program, you will begin mentorship training, also known as ride-alongs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this phase, you will operate buses on-route alongside a senior operator to gain hands-on experience across the system. This portion typically takes approximately two weeks to complete and may be scheduled to accommodate part-time hours, if required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ride-along shifts may occur any day of the week, with start times as early as 4:30 a.m. and end times as late as 1:00 a.m. Both day and night shifts are required during this phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What should I expect from the Driving Training Program?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initial portion of training focuses heavily on safety and bus operation. Training will take place in the yard, on the road, and in the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Topics covered include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pre-trip inspections on five or more buses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Downtown and urban driving<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Winter driving techniques<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cornering and turning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Customer service expectations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fare technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Smith System of driving<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional operational procedures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the program, two formal driver evaluations will be conducted, along with a final written exam at the end of training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How should I dress during the training program?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trainees are expected to wear comfortable, professional clothing appropriate for outdoor weather conditions. Sunglasses are strongly encouraged and closed shoes are mandatory during training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you successfully complete the Roam training portion of the program, you will be issued a uniform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Uniform Expectations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"block-77724b23-6675-4c02-916b-db502078b817\">At Roam Transit we offer Transit Operators a Uniform Allowance.&nbsp; This includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"block-7d88591f-2d0f-4c75-9af6-0bf7c5da0c5c\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Employer provided Uniform shirts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sweater or vest<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summer or winter jacket<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summer or winter hat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Name plate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"block-46ebfba5-90a4-4ccf-8acb-9fadf22fdbd4\"><strong>How should I dress as a Transit Operator at Roam Transit:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"block-f40189d1-b195-4d1c-9b70-745e9b14d9ad\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The dress code at Roam Transit is meant to be comfortable, practical and represent a positive professional image<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are required to wear black pants (no cargo pants for safety reasons).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jeans of any color are unacceptable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shoes must be black, polishable, and have good traction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No open toe shoes are permitted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We recommend warm and water-resistant shoes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-title-english=\"What is it like to be a Transit Operator at Roam?\"><h2 id=\"at-80463\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">What is it like to be a Transit Operator at Roam?<\/h2><div id=\"ac-80463\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Working as a transit operator at Roam is a fun and rewarding career.
